ADVERT FOR PURCHASE OF 220,000 METRIC TONS OF NON-GMO GRADE A WHITE MAIZE
The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) is mandated by Law to purchase maize and other designated commodities for strategic food reserves.
In pursuant to Section 7 (2) (3) of the Food Reserve Act Cap 225 of laws of Zambia, the Agency issued a gazette notice for the purchase of a minimum of 500,000 metric tons of maize during the 2016 crop marketing season from 1st June to 31st October 2016, subject to market dynamics.
However, the Agency has not met the maize purchase target. In order to meet the shortfall, local suppliers such as grain traders, commercial farmers and any firms or persons that have maize stocks are hereby invited to make offers for the sale of 220,000 metric tons of maize to the Agency.
The offers should clearly state the following;
- Name of supplier
- Quantity of maize being offered
- Location of the maize
- Offer price in Zambian Kwacha.
The minimum quantity which an individual supplier should have to be considered for a contract is 100,000 by 50 kilogram bags (5,000 metric tons) of maize.
The Agency will sign contracts with individual entities and payments will be on ‘first come first serve’ basis.
The maize should meet the following specifications and standards:
|Moisture content (% max)||12.5|
|Diseased grain (% max)||2.0|
|Shrivelled grain (% max)||0.1|
|Insect damaged grain (% max)||3.0|
|Discoloured grain (% max)||4.0|
|Other coloured grain (% max)||2.0|
|Broken grain (% max)||2.0|
|Foreign matter(% max)||1.0|
|Total defectives (% max)||14.1|
|Aflatoxin content, ppb, maximum||10.0|
The suppliers will be requested to deliver the maize to the nearest designated Agency depots and modalities to ensure that the above stated specifications and quality standards are met will be provided in the individual contracts to be signed with the Agency.
Offers clearly marked ‘Sale of maize to FRA’ should be deposited in the tender box at the Food Reserve Agency Head Office, Plot 7419 Manda Road, Industrial Area in Lusaka. The closing date for the receipt of offers is Monday 7th November 2016 at 14.30 hours.
We wish to inform our small scale farmers that the substantive 2016 crop marketing program will continue in the usual manner and as such they should continue delivering maize to our satellite depots countrywide.
