Food Reserve Agency Crop Marketing Update
The Food Reserve Agency has received one million five hundred (1,500,000) x 50Kg bags of maize and over fifty thousand (50,500) x40Kg bags of paddy rice worth K100 billion. The Agency has disbursed more than K40 billion across the country.
In the last one week, about 600 000 x 50 Kg bags have been received. This has been due to the reduced moisture content to the required 12.5% and the allowance of farmers to deliver in their own serviceable bags after the FRA ran out of empty grain bags.
Given the huge crop, farmers will be allowed to deliver maize in their own bags up to 20th August 2010. This means that no farmer will be turned away because of lack of empty grain bags.
All Warehouse managers have also been told to continue receiving stock even in depots where the earlier set targets have been met. The earlier targets were working numbers for administrative purposes to be continually updated.
The Agency will endevour to continuously make adjustments to improve our program for the betterment of our clients the small scale farmers.
